DANCE OF THE SNOWFLAKES - A HOLIDAY TAG

My entry for a mini-challenge from the group "What Do You Ink" at "Pages In Time".  The challenge was to create a project with a theme from the "Nutcracker".   Click on the title of this post to check out "Pages In Time".

I cut the tag on Cricut (Basic George) from a piece of G45 (The Night Before Christmas) which is a blue and cream snowy look pattern. I debossed this using the Big Shot with the Tim snowflake folder.  Next I randomly inked the raised areas with cream VersaMagic and heat embossed with white. I used a silver gilt ink pen to randomly distress over both the heat embossed and plain areas and the edges.

The ballerina/fairy I stamped with black Stazon on a scrap of the same paper, fussy cut it out and used a strip of foam to adhere it. This got a coat of Rock Candy Distress which I also dabbed on randomly for a bit of shine here and there.

The snow at the bottom is several bits of roses cut off a strip from American Crafts. The snowflakes I punched (MS) from both a white and a silver foil cardstock. The white ones at the top I edged with black ink for a bit of definition and topped these with clear gems (Kaiser). I used a platinum ultra-fine glitter (Glitter Ritz) around the edges of the tag. Ribbons - a bit of a white dotted organza and some silver wired ribbon which I cut in half widthwise.

FAMILY TIME - HOLIDAY ATC

The image is from ArtChix - I love the bright retro palette.  Covered in Sugar Beads and edged with gold gilt.  Simple - I just couldn't cover the image with more than the title.

TOGETHERNESS - A HOLIDAY ATC

The central image (Crafty Secrets) is covered in Sugar Beads and outlined with Platinum Stickles.  The title is a rub-on.  The holly leaves are cut from May Arts ribbon and the edges are gold gilt.

HOLIDAY ATC - FRANCIS THOMPSON QUOTE

Thought this was such a sweet quote! A simple one - Daisy D rub-on outlined with Stickles, blue glitter faux stitching and a snowflake brad.

PAGES IN TIME VINTAGE BOOKMARK SWAP

The Tags and Things group at Pages In Time had a Vintage Bookmark Swap earlier this fall.  It is so interesting to see all of our different takes on this project.  This first sweetie is from Carrie Taylor along with the card she sent it in. I love how the image just peeks out.  The butterfly is such a truly Victorian bit to add on.  And Carrie I am "lifting" your card design!  Carrie is working on a blog I will post her link soon! (Get going girl!)

My second bookmark is by Sandy Ang.  Oh so Belle Epoch - and Sandy claims she doesn't do vintage. The feathery fibers are perfect for the theme.  Sandy also created a "cradle" of sorts inside of the card for the bookmark to nest in.  Another card to "lift".   Do check out her blog for amazing inspiration.

The bookmarks I did:  Vintage Movie Theme (see posting of October 4/10 for details) which went to Sandy

And "See Spot Run" which went to Carrie.

TOY PAGE - EATON'S CATALOGUE 1943/44 "GAMES"

TOY PAGE - EATON'S CATALOGUE 1943/1944

Remember to click and then save the larger image.  I haven't resized this so you should get a good image.  Enjoy!

CHRISTMAS WISHBOOK - ATCs

I actually cut into my 1943/44 Eaton's Catalogue!  See my next posts for your own image.  The background on these is from the toy (games) section - just a few pages compared to what you find today.  I inked the edges with Stazon Saddle Brown and then a light coat of Rock Candy Distress Paint.  The tags are DaisyDs rubons which I mounted on cardstock and popped up.  The edges have all been trimmed with Platinum Stickles.  The rickrack are new bits, the cotton vintage.  Easy with a practicality to suit the war-time era.

FALL FANTASY ATC SWAP AT PAGES IN TIME

Between my notebook crashing and going back to work, I haven't been able to post much over the last month.   These are the tags I received November 3rd in a "Fall Fantasy Swap" hosted by Helene Huber at Pages In time.

The Artists are: Carla Oliveira, Lisa, Carrie Taylor, Helene Huber, Lacee Broyles, Marilyn McIldoon, Lisa Duke,  and Maggie White.   These are just great.  The process was also great fun as we shared what we were doing as we went along which just kept us all inspired to produce like fiends!  In this swap we didn`t know who would receive what  - so there was still an element of surprise - and that delightful day when they arrived in the mail.  Mine came in an orange and yellow bubble mailer stamped with Halloween Greetings and several witches courtesy of Helene!  I also love the trim you enclosed as a treat...:)

If you have ever considered joining an on-line crafting community (or have never heard of such a thing!)  check out Pages In Time by clicking on the title of this post and going directly there.

THE T-SHIRT SAYS IT ALL - A SCRAPBOOKING LAYOUT

My entry for the "B for Birds" challenge at The Alphabet Challenge (click on the title of this post to go directly there.)  The "birds" are stacked up on the right hand side.
Te green background paper is from DreamStreet, the borders and yellow background are both sides of a paper from American Craft and the white flower die cut sheet is from Creative Imaginations.  I adhered part of the die cut sheet to the yellow and cut around it, then chalked and faux stitched  some of the flowers and leaves.  The blue fibers I wound around a pin stuck through a dimensional glue dot - neat trick I learned recently.  Not sure that I didn't overwork the die cut sheet this time but I will try this one again.

I white inked the shadowy flower heads on the background.  I used Rock Candy Stickles and Warm Highlights glitter  to "pop" the butterfly trails.  A couple of silvery butterflys, an over-sized photo corner, a bit of velvet ribbon and a simple journal spot finish this up.

After posting I realized the ribbon had slipped down - not going to fix the picture!

LEST WE FORGET (4) - NOVEMBER 11, 2010

For some reason blogger wouldn't let me add multiple files to one posting, so my apologies for breaking all of this up.   This ATC was made by Layne Mikoda of Victoria.  Lovely and perfect for today.

LEST WE FORGET (3) - NOVEMBER 11, 2010

These are Bob's parents (Jean (Buckman) and Wally McLean).  On their honeymoon in Scotland, August 1945.  Jean (age 20) served in England and met Wally (age 23) who was Canadian Army on a posting in England.   They always observed Remembrance Day, turning out for a parade or wreath laying ceremony and typically joining friends at the Canadian Legion hall.

Bob and I spent a few minutes this morning talking about our parents, remembering them and their photos which mean so much to us.  If we don't go to the local ceremony we will still spend time respecting them at 11:11.

LEST WE FORGET (2) - NOVEMBER 11, 2010

That is my mom (Margie Morrisette) on the left.  The date is March 1953 and she is 18.  Training as a medic assistant in the US Army.  I was born the next year at Fort Sam Brooks, San Antonio.  Which would have been the reason she didn't serve in the Korean War.

LEST WE FORGET - NOVEMBER 11, 2010

My dad (Cub Sturdevant) spoke very little of the 2nd World War.  He served as Artillery in the Pacific.  He never really admitted  to liking poetry but there were bits from him on occasion.  Always "In Flanders' Fields" on Remembrance Day.  His father served as a blacksmith in the US Calvary during WW1.   This picture is 1944, dad was 18 and a new private in the US Army.

VINTAGE STYLE HOLIDAY TAG - AND A FLOWER TUTORIAL

It's time for me to switch over to Christmas!  This is a tag I have made for a "tag swap" over at Pages In Time.  I made this type of flower when I was a child doing "projects" - I always called them Fortune Cookie flowers.  I've outlined the steps to make these below!  Feel free to e-mail me (see button on right) if you have questions.

1.  Cut five same sized circles based on the size of flower you want to create.  Fabric, felt, paper, crepe can all work by adjusting your adhesive to the appropriate one.  On this one I used pinking shears.  Scallops work well.  You can also free hand a simple flower shape and copy that five times.  A plain edge also works.  Create the look you want.

2.  Put one flower down flat as your base.  Take a second flower and add a drop of glue to the center of that flower folding it in half.  Put a drop of glue into the center of your 1st flower and put your second flower down over the left half of your first flower.

3.  Move this little stack counterclockwise so that the 2nd flower is on the lower half.  Add a drop of glue to the center of the third flower and fold in half.  Put a drop of glue into the center of your stack and put this third flower on the left side of your stack.  Partially over the top of your 2nd flower.

4.  Turn your stack again so that your 3rd flower is on the bottom.  Add a drop of glue to the center of your 4th flower and fold it in half.  Again add that to the left half of your stack with a drop of glue in the center of the stack.

5.  Add a drop of glue to the center of your last flower and fold that in half.  Bring the top of  your 4th flower back a bit add a crop of glue to the center of the stack.  Put your 5th flower onto the upper half of the stack.  The left side of this last flower will be under the upper half of the 4th flower.

6.  I like to use a button for the center but of course you can use more typical flower centers.  Push or pinch all of the flower petals up at the center and glue in your center.  I used Platinum Stickles on the edges of this one.  The vintage crepe did bleed into it and turn it red but in this case it looks fine.

Have fun!

TRICK OR TREAT - A HALLOWEEN SCRAPBOOKING LAYOUT

This time Alex gets to wear the clown costume - notice the neck ruff around his waist?   The "treat" bannr I made from scraps of corrugated black and a string of orange fibers that had flag like bits hanging from it.  I will still get to scrap Halloween when pics from the grands start to come in!

BEWARE - A HALLOWEEN SCRAPBOOKING LAYOUT

I did manage to get a few of our older Halloween pics scrapped over the last while!  This would have been Allison's first Halloween party.  Though I did make her clown costume I didn't make any of the decorations - would be the opposite now!  Wish I had those "now collectible ornaments"...
